FAQ

  • Are your kits suitable for children?
Due to the tiny glass beads and the sharp points of the wires contained in all the kits, they are not suitable for children and should be kept out of reach of children. They are not intended to be used by children under the age of 16 years old.
  • How long does it take to make each kit?
The time it takes to produce your finished flowers varies from kit to kit and from person to person. I would recommend allowing a minimum of two hours for the single flower kits, a minimum of about eight hours for the vases, and maybe 5-6 hours for the wreaths. but you don't have to make them up all in one go!
  • Are the kits suitable for beginners?
All the kits come with step by step photo and written instructions to guide you through the making process. They are suitable for all levels of crafter and you can always get in touch with me if you need some guidance with your project.
  • I've finished my project, what next?
Make more flowers! You can purchase more seed beads and wire in the shop or from many other bead retailers online. Once you have the pattern (included in your kit) then you can continue to make flowers. For example, the Poppy - the kit comes in its common red form, but poppies can be yellow (Californian) or blue (Himalayan). Be adventurous, you can use any colour to make your blooms individual! Or try something bigger like a wreath or a full vase of flowers.
  • What are the main materials in the kits?
All the beads are made from glass, some are coated with pearlescent covers, some are lined with silver, some are frosted - but they are all glass. The wire used in the formation of the petals, leaves and centres is silver plated copper. This is a long-lasting, non-tarnish coating. The wire used in the stems is galvanised steel, similar to that used in garden fence construction. Chosen for its strength to hold your beautiful blooms up. Due to the nature of the materials I do not recommend displaying them outside as the weather will deteriorate the wires over time.
  • What tools do I need?
Wire cutters - the main tool you will require as your project wires are sent in one length so you can easily snip them to size - this avoids any wastage. Flat-nosed pliers - a handy tool to have, especially when you need to insert the wire back down beads already strung onto the wire; as well as when you're attaching flowers to a wreath. Bead Spinner - absolutely not necessary as you can string the beads by hand, but if you get the bug and want to continue making flowers then I would highly recommend one. Scissors - just normal household scissors to cut the floristry tape, although you can 'rip' it instead. Ruler - essential for making your petals the right size!
  • I didn't cut enough wire and now its too short to finish the petal - what can I do?
Don't start over again! You can add in more wire by cutting the required extra length and wrapping it tightly a couple of times around the base of the last petal, therefore allowing you to continue. I have made a blog post about this with video which you might find useful.
  • I would like to send a kit as a gift. Can you include a message and/or gift wrap it?
Absolutely yes - I love the thought of the kits being given as gifts, its makes them extra special. Please add the gift wrap option to your basket and if you are purchasing more than one kit, let me know which one/s need to be in the special parcel. I will include a handwritten message on a floral notecard with envelope - just remember to leave your message when prompted.

  • How do I care for my flowers once I've made them?
Well, you definitely don't need to water them! Keep them in a dry container (vase, pot etc) and occasionally give them a dust with a feather duster or very gentle air-blower. if your petals have drooped or moved, then you can easily bend them back into place. DO NOT keep your flowers outside, the wires will deteriorate over time if left out in rain/wind/snow etc.
  • Can I sell the flowers I make?
I am happy for you to sell your handmade flowers but I would ask that you credit The Beaded Garden when doing so.
